FORMBY GOLF CLUB – Par 72, 6725 yards. Formby might well be the most attractive course on England’s Golf Coast and it vies with neighbor Hillside for the title of best links never to have staged the Open Championship. It is an exceptional test, and frequently stages The Amateur, the Home Internationals and other leading national and international events. Formby co-hosted the Amateur Championship in 2009 and is ranked in the top 80 golf courses in the World! Ben Wright describes it as “…a magnificent golf course…”
HILLSIDE GOLF CLUB – Par 72, 6558 yards. Hillside lays claim to having the finest homeward nine in British golf and its opening half is scarcely less formidable. It can simply be described as a Links to Test the Best and is regularly called on to host the Amateur and other leading Championships. Greg Norman once described the back nine at Hillside as the best he had played, while Jack Nicklaus describes it as a wild looking links. Hillside co-hosted the Amateur Championship in 2011 and is ranked as one of UK’s top 100 golf courses.
ROYAL BIRKDALE – Par 72, 6817 yards. The rugged links at Birkdale is widely regarded as the finest course in England and to date it has hosted nine Open Championships, and in 2014 is staging the Ricoh Women’s British Open for the ninth time. It is a stunning test of golf and its short 12th hole stands comparison with any par-3 in world golf. Apart from being ranked as England’s number 1 golf course, Royal Birkdale is also ranked within the top 10 golf courses of the World!
ROYAL LIVERPOOL – Par 72, 7218 yards. Royal Liverpool, founded in 1869, is one of the oldest and most historic clubs in England and over the years has earned a deserved reputation for presenting some of the finest greens in British golf. It was here in 1930 that Bobby Jones won the Open Championship, and Tiger Woods claimed the title when the club staged its eleventh Open in 2006. It also hosted the inaugural Amateur Championship, the first English Amateur, the first Home Internationals and the precursor to the Walker Cup. Royal Liverpool hosted the 2012 Ricoh Women’s British Open and will host the Open Championship again in 2014. Royal Liverpool is ranked 15 in the UK and is ranked in the top 80 courses in the World!
ROYAL LYTHAM & ST. ANNES – Par 71, 6731 yards. Royal Lytham & St Annes, constructed in 1897, enjoys a deserved reputation as one of Britain’s most challenging courses and in 2011 staged its eleventh Open Championship. It was at Lytham in 1969 that Tony Jacklin became the first British golfer to win the Open for 18 years, and 40 years later that Catriona Matthew claimed the Ricoh Women’s British Open a mere eleven weeks after giving birth to her second child! It has also hosted two Ryder Cups. Royal Lytham is ranked 17 in the UK and is ranked in the top 80 courses in the World!
