James Braid was the architect of the original course at S&A (as it is affectionately known) and the five-time Open champion made such a good job that US magazine Golf World chose to describe it as the best designed course in the UK. Back in 1937 it became the first course to host two Ryder Cups and it is still a favorite haunt of lovers of traditional seaside golf. It has also hosted the British Ladies Open and British Amateur. S&A is ranked as one of UK’s top 100 golf courses.
